A Little About Us

Jac and Barbara are retired teachers, and they found Denver, NC as a place to settle and enjoy retirement. Kristen, the baby of the three girls, moved to Charlotte in 2016, seeking that “small city life” and where she could explore her marketing career more. Jenny, born with Downs Syndrome, doesn’t go anywhere without mom and dad, so she moved down to Charlotte with Jac and Barbara. Stephanie, also a former teacher, trickled down in 2018 to join her family, and her now hubby, Jeff, moved with her. As a family, this clan always knew they would stay close to one another. In all honesty, Jenny is the glue that keeps them so close, for it takes a village to keep Jenny in line.

In 2018, Kristen, Steph, and Barbara were frequenting a North Carolina vineyard; they indulged in a couple glasses of wine, shared some delicious snacks, and soaked up the scenery. They started chatting about 10 years from now, 20 years from now. It was that day at the winery that the Cicala ladies envisioned their ideal future: owning a piece of property that could be a place that would offer  the community a place to gather and enjoy precious time. It was a place that would bring people together, one that would facilitate love and laughter for those who would visit. It was that day in 2018 at the winery that Sunflower Meadows came to fruition.  And, since then, it has been constantly on their minds. In 2020, in a time of such uncertainty and difficulty, they wanted to create a place for happiness, a little sliver of heaven in Catawba County where they could call home, and they found Glady Lane. They couldn't resist this perfect piece of land. Thus, that is how  Sunflower Meadows came to be. And, a year later, the doors will be open to the community.

The Cicala family envisions a place that will be a part of this community for years to come, a place they can continue to call home, a place where their family, together, can continue to overcome life’s obstacles. So much of Sunflower Meadows has been created in memory of the Cicala's loving family members who worked so hard to provide for their family and to create a loving home. The family honors this piece of heaven to Ann and Gene Miller and Joseph and Libby Cicala, for they are the ones who endured such hardships in their lifetime yet created such an everlasting legacy for their respective families.
